This blog is to help create awareness for stillbirth and let bereaved parents know that they are not alone on their journey of loss.  It is in loving memory of our son, Benjamin James Travers, born sleeping on 16th April 2017.

Benjamin Close Up

I started Benjamin’s Light to help me navigate through the feelings of loss, pain and a seemingly hopeless future after the stillbirth of my son.  Benjamin was at 35 weeks + 2 days gestation when we found out that his little heart had stopped beating.  In that moment our lives were changed forever. Broken and in despair we had to face our unthinkable new reality – life without Benjamin.

As each day passes since his leaving us, it is his light that is helping me to find my way out of this desperate darkness.  I am determined to become a stronger and better person as a result of having had him in my life.  I owe that to our son, to honour his short life and the amazing happiness and love he has brought us.

Reading others’ stories has helped me immensely and made me realise just how many families go through this devastating loss every day. I hope our story helps you to find some peace through all of the craziness…

Thinking of you with love……..author unknown

We thought of you with love today,

but that is nothing new.

We thought about you yesterday,

and days before that too.

We think of you in silence,

we often speak your name.

All we have are memories,

and your picture in a frame.

Your memory is our keepsake,

with which we will never part.

God has you in His keeping,

we have you in our hearts.

A million times we’ve wanted you.

A million times we cried.

If love could only have saved you,

you never would have died.

It broke our hearts to lose you.

But you didn’t go alone.

For a part of us went with you……

the day God called you home.

A special note of thanks…all the beautiful photos of Benjamin and Benjamin with his Mummy & Daddy were taken by Heartfelt.  Without these photos we would be lost.  They are the most amazing gift you could ever be given in the darkest hours of your life.

UnknownHeartfelt is a volunteer organisation of professional photographers from all over Australia and New Zealand dedicated to giving the gift of photographic memories to families that have experienced stillbirths, premature births or have children with serious and terminal illnesses.  Check out their website link on the right.  All donations are very welcome.
